Emily M. Hobbs

I believe my role as an attorney is to be a helpful instrument of service to clients and overburdened court systems. My clients range in size from mid-size regional organizations to publicly traded Fortune 500 companies. My approach is practical, collaborative and proactive. I’m able to quickly synthesize the facts, understand business objectives and work hand-in-hand with my clients to achieve compliance with minimal disruption. I strive to support and empower client representatives to make compliant business-minded decisions by imparting legal knowledge they can apply to a variety of workplace situations.

As a sixth generation Coloradan, and daughter of a Western water law attorney and scholar, I grew up exploring mountain-state waterways, peaks, and canyons. I visited rural ranching and agricultural communities where tradition and modern commerce coexist. I acquired a service-oriented perspective early on working as a community development volunteer in rural Latin America, where I learned to speak Spanish and formed a fundamental belief that communities and enterprises only succeed through the dedication and commitment of hard-working people. I have remained close to my roots advising and representing natural resources-based companies with operations in remote communities and clients in other highly regulated industries.

I spent two decades working in large regional law firms as an associate attorney and equity partner, where I advised clients, litigated and arbitrated employment cases across the country, delivered appellate oral arguments, and served in firm management roles. In these firms, I experienced exceptional professional mentorship from preeminent employment attorneys who help shaped employment law jurisprudence and learned the importance of mentoring others.

Collaborating with Dora and Nick at Ascent Employment Law fulfills a long-held desire to provide the highest caliber of employment law expertise and greater alignment with clients who desire personalized attention and close partnership with outside employment counsel.

When I’m not solving legal issues, I’m on the move taking modern dance classes, hiking or running outdoors with my canine companion (Ophelia), traveling to new places across the world, listening to live music, or learning to silversmith.
