An effective employment lawyer understands the intersection of the law and human nature. As I see it, legal compliance and effective management are directly tied to workers’ personal satisfaction, commitment, and productivity, which translates to a thriving company.
I have more than two decades of experience practicing in large law firms, where I advised clients and litigated employment cases across the country. Co-founding Ascent with Colin is the culmination of a long-held desire to provide the highest caliber of service to my clients without barriers that I found to be common in big law.
My approach is practical, collaborative and proactive. I’m able to quickly synthesize the facts, understand business objectives and work hand-in-hand with my clients to achieve compliance with minimal disruption. I want my clients to understand their choices, feel empowered and take away knowledge they can apply to other workplace situations. And while I don’t endorse showy courtroom theatrics, my training as a classical actor and in improvisational theater helps me read audiences and adapt quickly to effectively advocate on my clients’ behalf.
I’m a 6th generation Coloradan with deep ties in the legal community. My late father, Justice Gregory J. Hobbs Jr., a water and natural resources attorney, served on the Colorado Supreme Court for nearly 20 years. I learned from him that the law is the instrument of service; lawyers, at their best, exist to solve difficult problems for real people.
On a personal level, when I’m not practicing law, you can find me adventuring outdoors, discovering new places, and spending time with the important people in my life. I’m drawn to the beauty of landscapes and geography across the world as well as art, literature (The Milagro Beanfield War by John Nichols is a favorite), culture and community. I also volunteer with a non-profit organization that seeks to end human trafficking.
