My favorite part of being a labor and employment attorney is developing a deep understanding of my clients’ business operations and goals. I believe this is the cornerstone of providing efficient and effective employment law counsel and becoming a trusted team member.

My approach to workplace issues is resolution-oriented. In my experience, active listening, mediation, creative thinking, and collaborative problem-solving can often resolve workplace grievances. Sometimes it’s necessary to resolve issues through judicial or agency action. When that’s the path, I relish the opportunity to represent clients before state and federal agencies and tribunals. As my family will attest, my favorite thing to do is advocate (or “argue,” depending on who you are asking!).

I have represented clients across many industries; however, I particularly enjoy helping hospitality companies address the unique challenges faced in the service industry. As an undergraduate, I studied at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, hoping to work in the human resources or legal department at a world-class ski resort.

After I fell in love with employment law at the University of Michigan Law School, I changed course and spent a decade as a labor and employment litigator with large Denver law firms. This allowed me to represent a wide variety of clients, including a handful of hospitality companies, meet my legal mentor (Emily!), and eventually settle down just west of my favorite ski hills, Vail and Beaver Creek.

Prior to joining Ascent, I most recently served as Senior Compliance Counsel for a publicly traded company that provides absence, accommodation, and disability management software and outsourcing solutions. My experience working in-house gave me a new perspective on the relationship between businesses and their outside counsel and has instilled in me the value of timely, cost-effective, practical legal advice. I am thrilled to join Emily, Colin, and Nick in providing exactly that to clients of Ascent.

When I’m not practicing law, I spend my time skiing and hiking with my family, playing hockey, and exploring the Colorado River by ducky.
